Abstract
Bayswater, Kilburn, Ladbroke Grove and Maida Vale made up the former metropolitan borough of Paddington, which was abolished in 1965. Today the area is part of the City of Westminster and is a centre for transport, with the famous Paddington railway station, designed by celebrated engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, forming the terminus of the Great Western Railway. Notable residents include Alan Turing, Elvis Costello and Emma Thompson. Join author Brian Girling as he explores the fascinating past of this part of the capital. From shops to churches, street scenes to parkland, this beautiful selection of old and new images brings W2 to life.
